Getting Your Family Involved In Home Improvement Projects

By Phillip Roosevelt

Whether you only have a hundred dollars to spend on a home improvement project or thousands at your disposal, the prospect of enhancing and adding value to your home is very exciting for most people. These carefully selected home improvement tips and tricks are just the thing to get you inspired and ready for your next project.

Any home will benefit from a regular painting schedule. Painting is one of those home improvement tasks that is not vital, but keeping up with it pays considerable dividends. A house which has been painted and repainted at frequent intervals will look more appealing to potential buyers. Homeowners that paint their houses regularly will also avoid the necessity of a major, expensive paint job when they decide to sell their homes.

Exterior lighting will give you peace of mind at night, and add beauty to your landscaping. Consider motion sensor lighting, as this will reduce the amount of energy used when the outdoors are not occupied, and can also frighten away unwanted animals or even prowlers. Install the lights in strategic places, such as the exact area visible to you from a window, and the path from your vehicle to the front door.

If you have a large garden but would like more indoor living space, adding a conservatory is one home improvement you should consider. A conservatory will provide an additional room to your house that will be filled with natural light. The room can be used for moonlit dinners, home gym equipment, sun lounges and much more. The structure is also likely to catch the eye of potential buyers and increase the resale value of your home.

Making sure that your basement is weatherproof is the first step to creating a living space in there. If your basement is dry and never leaks or floods, it is a great way to save money on your renovation. However, if your basement is perennially flooded or damp, it not only makes way for mold, but also makes the space uninhabitable. Make sure to weatherproof your basement before beginning your remodeling project.

If you want to do a simple home improvement that will add value to your bathrooms, consider stripping off the old wallpaper. Wallpaper is a dated wall covering and many times when a new home buyer sees it, it is a turn off. Strip it off and paint a neutral color.

Plant some trees around your home. Trees increase in value as they get bigger and will shade your house and help to save energy. The shade they provide can keep your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. When planting trees, they can be the walls and roofs of outdoor rooms.

Home improvement could become your new hobby: it saves you a lot of money when you consider how much you can do to improve your home. These tips should help you get started or get new ideas. Remember that home improvement should either be fun or save you money. Consider this before you start a new project.
